What is the difference between interpreting and translation?

 

Interpreting is the oral communication done so accurately and non-biased.  Translation is the written materials which may be translated from English to Spanish and vice versa.

 

Why shouldn’t I use my neighbor who speaks Spanish to translate for me?

First of all that neighbor has no experience in translating, they might be better at one language than the other. They may have not studied the language or have any training to fully understand all the words that they need to translate, especially when it comes to medical, legal or technical matters. Only a trained professional should handle your translation needs.

 

What are your rates like for translation and interpreting?

The industry-standard practice is to charge by the word. It is neither accurate, nor fair, to charge by “page”, since one page could vary from 50 to 500 words depending on the format, font size, and subject matter. Words can be easily counted with popular software like MS Word, and it is very difficult to “tamper” with the word count. You could end up changing the meaning if you change the words for the sake of “saving some money”.
For interpreting services we charge hourly with a minimum of a scheduled hour. Also take into consideration charges for traveling and expenses. These will be priced separately. However, if you're within our twelve mile radius, there will be no charge for traveling.


You will not be charged for a quote. You simply need to provide us with a copy of your document.

 

If a client only speaks and reads Spanish could there be consequences to having them sign an English only contract?

First of all we recommend consulting your lawyer. This is in no way legal advice. Realistically, anyone can see the possible issues that could arise after the signing of a contract in English by a person who can only read/write or speak Spanish.
